This is Part 1 of my countdown of the top 100 rock songs of the 1990s, in my opinion. The 90s saw the rise of alternative rock, grunge, and hip-hop/rock fusion. In contrast to the 2000s, the 90s were dominated by a few bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. That said, I tried to limit the amount of songs per band to no more than five. I think it’s safe to say that the quality of songs on this countdown is far superior to the quality of the songs on my Top 100 Rock Songs of the 21st Century list. I sure do miss the 90s in terms of music.

Songs were ranked according to a combination of personal preference, cultural significance, and lasting impact on rock music. I’m sure I forgot a worthy song or two, so feel free to leave a comment about something I might have missed.
