New York’s WRXP 101.9 New Rock Sold to CBS Radio & Changing to WFAN Simulcast

On Twitter: @AkiemBailum

Well, that didn’t last long, did it?

Today, Merlin Media/GTCR announced that WRXP-FM 101.9 New Rock be sold to CBS Radio & CBS has already announced its plans for their new 101.9 station…they’ll make it into a simulcast of WFAN 660. 101.9 will be WFAN-FM while nothing has been annouced for 660 even though it’ll likely be a 24/7 CBS Sports Radio station.

This debunks the myth that Randy Michaels tried to say when he said that his stations aren’t for sale. A week later, WRXP gets sold to CBS Radio for $75 million. And, look out for Merlin’s other stations in Chicago (WKQX-LP Q87.7 Alternative Rock, WLUP-FM 97.9 the Loop Classic Rock & WIQI-FM i101 Hot AC) and Philadelphia (WWIQ-FM IQ 106.9 News/Talk/Information). They’re next.

The deal will also put CBS over the ownership limit for TV and radio stations it can have in any market. So something will have to be sold in order for the WRXP deal to go through. My guess is that WWFS 102.7 Fresh FM gets sold even though I wish it was WXRK 92.3 Now (Rhythmic CHR). Another scenario is that 1010 WINS could move off 1010 and onto 92.3.

What is the record for most format changes one station has had in a year? Is this Guinness worthy? lol 🙂

Your Opinion…?
