Rendezvous Artist Ep. 3 – Theta Waves – Music Interviews With Artists

Alright, alright, alright! Breaking into the new year with some heavy indie rock! This is the latest Rendezvous Artist Interview.

Chapters:
Intro: 0:01
Origins of the Name-Theta Waves 0:34
What got you into music? 1:33
Who inspires you and what do you like to play? 3:49
What is in the future for Theta Waves? 5:28
What does music mean to you? 7:29
Song credits, social media 9:50

Right here we have Theta Waves, an all out alternative rock group from Cleveland, Ohio. Jordan Thompson (rhythm guitar / frontman), Nick Bilski (lead guitar), Matt Kaulfersch (drums) and Morgan Fox (bass) sat down with the Rendezvous Artist team to talk band origins, personal music life, and future plans. With a three song EP standing on Sound Cloud and plenty of live shows under their belt, this group is well on their way to recognition.

As a band, Theta Waves has been around for only a year, but they are intent on finding their sound and their vibe. As a lineup, Thompson has carried the moniker through several changes. The most recent of these switch ups is the addition of Kaulfersch as their fifth drummer. Despite the personal responsibilities in each member’s life, you can tell that the chemistry of these four is growing. On stage, each member executes with confidence and organic showmanship; in jam sessions they’ve developed a safe creative space that propels the individual talents forward.

Each of the members has a deep rooted appreciation of music instilled in them through family. You can tell the passion for creating is sourced from a synonymous perspective of life and music. Thompson grew up singing and celebrating music with his tight knit family, Kaulfersch and Fox both drew inspiration from their dads, and Bilski has pictures of a two year old version of himself holding a small guitar his parents found for him.

Sound wise these guys are lit. Built on a foundation of classic rock and pop, their alternative style has layers of punk infused with a lot of metal. Bringing in some synth undertones to a few of their intros is a nice blend that we hope they bring out more. Lyrics have been mainly developed by Thompson, and cover a range of real life topics. There’s nothing generic about the originals they have already recorded and that is what is so great about this group: they may not have style on lock quite yet, but they know how to look good finding it.

Bands / Artists / Songs mentioned in this interview: Metallica, Black Sabbath, Cliff Burton, Michael Jackson, Thriller, Hawaii Five-o, Green Day, Steely Dan, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Slayer, The Eagles, Mike Stern, Joe Pass, Animals as Leaders, Chon, Circa Survive
